The Backpack Challenge

Temple University's Center for Social Policy and Community Development is support The Backpack Challenge, in partnership with Valley Youth House and the Philadelphia Department of Human Services to support current and foster care youth, ages 16 to 21, who will be attending college or high school in the Fall 2013.   There is a Backpack Challenge collection container on the first and fifth floor of Ritter Annex, near the elevators.  The challenge runs from August 1 – August 28, 2013.

As you know, going to college or high school is an extremely stressful time.  For current and former foster youth, it is even more so because they lack a support system to aid them in purchasing the supplies they will need. Providing these items will help to prepare them to be successful in school.  The Backpack Challenge raises funds and collects essential back to school items, such as:

  • Backpacks
  • Flash Drives
  • Scientific Calculators
  • Calculators
  • Day Planners
  • Post It Notes
  • Index Cards
  • Pens, Pencils & Erasers
  • Highlighters
  • Folders
  • Three Ring Binders
  • Spiral Notebooks
  • Rulers
  • Water Bottles
  • Combination Locks
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Pocket Sized Tissue Packs
  • SAT Prep Books
  • Lanyards & Key Chains
  • Pre-paid Cell Phones
  • Gift Cards
Please consider making a donation.  Much appreciation for your time.
