Student & Alumni Award Reciepents

BREAKING NEWS

Congratulations to Lauren Frabizzion, a sophomore in the TR program for being selected for the prestigious Diamond Ambassador Scholarship.  This $2500 scholarship helps a handful (only 25 students are chosen) of exceptional students at Temple University achieve what is, for many, a lifelong dream of studying abroad. “Lauren is really committed to the growth of others as well as her own personal growth,” says Nannette Vliet,Ed.M., CTRS, a clinical instructor and undergraduate coordinator who was Lauren’s faculty mentor during the application process. “She takes every experience and learns from it.”  Lauren plans to spend six weeks at Temple’s campus in Rome during the summer of 2013. She hopes to absorb as much of the culture as possible and take an art history class while in Rome.

Congratulations to Jennifer DruceJennifer is completing her senior internship at Sunrise Assisted Living, under the supervision of alumni, Aurora Crew (2010).   Jennifer was recognized in the Sunrise Assisted Living e-newsletter, which is distributed to the 400+ Sunrise facilities in the US, Canada and the UK, for an educational event she developed entitledKeeping Healthy Through Leisure & Recreation”.  The event, held this past February to kickoff  “TR Awareness month”, was designed to educate residents on the benefits of therapeutic recreation and why they should attend activities. Residents were challenged to identified different recreation and leisure activities and discuss the benefits of each activity as it related to Mind, Body and Spirit. Throughout the rest of February, Jennifer and AVC, Aurora Crew,  also trained the team on the benefits of Recreational Therapy and Activities for older adults.

Congratulations to Brigid Lyons, a senior TR student, whose research application to the Creative Arts, Research and Scholarship (CARAS) program at Temple University was awarded. Brigid's research proposal "Physiological Effects of a Technology Based Music Making Program in Skilled Nursing Residents" has been funded for $3105.00. She will be working under the supervision of Dr. Rhonda Nelson collecting data at the Philadelphia Protestant Home.

Congratulations to Adrianna Smith and Megan Baumelon receiving the 2011 student scholarship awards from the New Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania Therapeutic Recreation Association.  This scholarship enables both students to attend the 2 day conference in Princeton, NJ at no cost, provides lodging and meals and a wonderful opportunity to network with TR practitioners from the region and nation. We are honored to have both scholarships awarded to Temple TR students!
