Proposal Development

Approval Process

A SPAF - or Sponsored Projects Approval Form – is Temple’s form to obtain signature approval from all faculty on a project, their department chairs, and their Dean’s Offices. It must be submitted to CHPSW Research Administration at least 10 business days prior to the sponsor deadline. It is required for all submissions to external funders, regardless of the submission mechanism, including:

  • New proposals and resubmissions
  • Continuations, progress reports, and renewals
  • Supplements and amendments to current grants
  • Contracts
  • Subawards
  • Letters of intent (LOIs), if the letter requires the amount requested or a budget

Refer to the Sponsored Programs Fact Sheet for New Faculty (pdf) for general information about sponsored project development in CHPSW.

Suggested Timeline

In January 2011, new internal deadlines were imposed by SPA and CHPSW (refer to this memo). Refer to this sample submission timeline for a federal application.
