Biography

Katherine (Kate) W. Bauer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and the Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) at Temple University. Prior to her appointment at Temple, Dr. Bauer was a post-doctoral fellow with the University of Minnesota’s Obesity Prevention Training Program. Dr. Bauer received her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota and a MS in Health and Social Behavior from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Bauer’s research focuses on identifying behavioral, social, and environmental determinants of children’s and adolescents’ weight status, and the development and evaluation of interventions to decrease youth’s risk for obesity and obesity-related health outcomes. Much of her work focuses on the role of families in children’s nutrition behaviors and obesity risk, including understanding how the family environment influences children’s behavior, as well as how factors such as employment patterns, food security, and neighborhood resources affect parents’ ability to build a family environment that encourages children’s healthful weight maintenance.
