Biography

Dr. Bradley Collins was trained as a clinical psychologist with research expertise in health psychology and substance dependence treatment. He has extensive clinical experience with patients presenting co-occurring mood, anxiety, and substance dependence disorders. Academically, Dr. Collins has developed programs of extramurally-funded applied, community-based as well as laboratory-based research addressing addictive behavior, tobacco dependence, and cancer control and prevention. Much of his research focuses on low income and medically-underserved populations and is designed to examine factors that influence health behavior change at the individual, family, and community levels. Current research efforts include the development of multi-level intervention trials to improve the public health impact of tobacco interventions that focus on family health (e.g., children’s exposure to secondhand smoke.) Dr. Collins directs the Health Behavior Research Clinic, maintaining an active research program that includes collaborative projects among faculty and students across departments and colleges at Temple University. Through his research, teaching, and mentorship, Dr. Collins promotes a transdisciplinary approach to training graduate students to help prepare students for the challenges of their academic and career futures.
