Biography

Jane McCausland Kurz graduated from Holy Family University (HFU) with a BSN. She completed her master’s degree at Widener University in Burns Emergency and Trauma Nursing and later she completed her doctoral degree work at University of Delaware in Family Studies. She currently is an associate professor in Nursing at Temple University where she has taught since 1998. She is the former Associate Dean for the College of Health Professions and Social Work, a position that she held for 5 years which ended on July 1, 2011. Her commitment to teaching nursing students is evidenced by her years in the classroom and critical care clinical areas with such institutions as the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, HFU, and Delaware State University. She received several training grants from the Department of Health and Human Services: Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that benefited graduate nursing students over 5 years.

Funders for her research include: the Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association, HERSA, the Philadelphia Corporation on Aging and Temple University’s Dean’s Internal Grants. Dr. Kurz’ publications and presentations have addressed many topics, such as end-of life education program evaluations, student learning, medical-surgical nursing, international nursing, organ donation, and families’ involvement with heart-lung transplantation. She is also a regular reviewer for Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, Journal of Family Nursing, Journal of Pediatric Nursing, Medical Economics, and Medical Science Monitor.

She serves on many university and professional organization committees. She has been a member of the Second Wind National Lung Transplant Association since 1997 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2007. She is also an active member of American Nurses Association (ANA), Delaware Nurses Association (DNA) , Sigma Theta Tau, and the National Council of Family Relations. In October 2011 she was elected to the DNA Board of Directors as one of the Delaware delegates to the American Nurses Association. She will participate as a voting member at the ANA convention in June 2012 to shape national policy.
