Program Goals

Bachelor of Science in Athletic Traning
- To prepare athletic training graduates for the BOC certification examination.
- To prepare athletic training graduates with various clinical experiences to develop their skills.
- To prepare athletic training graduates for future careers in the athletic training profession.
- To prepare athletic training graduates to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct.
- To prepare athletic training graduates to demonstrate personal and professional growth.
- To prepare athletic training graduates to incorporate a positive working relationship with fellow students, athletic, and allied health community members.
- To prepare athletic training graduates with ample experiences in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains to succeed in the ATEP.
- To prepare the athletic training graduates to communicate appropriately with regard to age, activity level, gender, race, ethnic, linguistic, socioeconomic, and special needs backgrounds.
Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology
Exercise Science
- Graduates of the Undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science program will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how knowledge in the discipline is created, organized, linked to other disciplines, and applied to life settings and situations.
- Graduates of the Undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science program will be able to demonstrate their ability to individualize the physical activity and exercise program to meet the specific needs of their clients. They will be able to ensure the clients safety, optimized the clients’ outcomes and provide the educational and motivational strategies necessary to ensure self responsibility.
- Graduates of the Undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science program will be able to demonstrate, enrich, maintain, and alter their strategies and methodologies to meet the diverse needs of the clients they serve.
- Graduates of the Undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science program will demonstrate the requisite behavior of a health-fitness professional and be a strong advocate for physical. activity in the life and health of their clients and communities
- The Undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science program will serve the community by providing resources and materials for professional enrichment and continuing education.
Teacher Education (PHETE)
- Graduates performance will appropriately demonstrate expectations for student achievement with value placed on the quality of student work, attention to equitable learning opportunities for students.
- Graduate will appropriate interactions between teacher and students and among students.
- Graduates will display effective classroom routines and procedures resulting in little or no loss of instructional time.
- Graduates performance will appropriately demonstrate clear standards of conduct and effective management of student behavior.
- Graduates will give appropriate attention to safety in the classroom to the extent that it is under the control of the student teacher.
- Graduates will exhibit the ability to establish and maintain rapport with students.
Master of Science in Kinesiology
- Graduates will complete 36 credit program successfully with a GPA at or above 3.00.
- Graduates will successfully complete a high quality culminating option (e.g., thesis, project, or clinical/internship practicum option).
- Graduates will achieve student set goals in a reasonable time frame in terms of placement after completing master’s degree (e.g., entering a doctoral program, finding employment, retaining current employment).
Master of Science in Kinesiology Concentration in Athletic Training
- Graduates should be able to critically review research evidence.
- Graduates should be able to create and complete a research project.
- Graduates should be able to defend and present the results of an independent research project.
- Graduates should be able to display advanced clinical athletic training skills through the demonstration of professionalism by attending and/or presenting at local, state or national presentations.
- Graduates should be able to display advanced clinical athletic training skills by taking on a supervisory role as an approved clinical instructor (ACI).
- Graduates should be able to display advanced clinical athletic training skills by increasing knowledge of topics integral to the athletic training discipline.
- Graduates should be able to display knowledge of brain injury and sensory motor control system.
Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology
- Graduates will complete 78 credit program successfully with a GPA at or above 3.00.
- Graduates will publish at least one article in a refereed journal with student as first author.
- Graduates will successfully complete a high quality doctoral dissertation.
- Graduates will achieve student set goals in a reasonable time frame in terms of placement after completing doctoral degree (e.g., finding employment, such as a post-doctoral fellowship or academic position, or retaining current employment).
