Each year the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (PHIMA) awards several education scholarships to students who demonstrate academic achievement and commitment to the field of health information management in Pennsylvania.  PHIMA promotes education and recruitment of new students as critical success factors for the HIM profession.

Health Information Management Academic Achievement Award -  Jessica L. Miller

This award is given to the graduating full-time student who has demonstrated academic excellence through attainment of the highest grade point average in the two years of professional course work.  

Health Information Management Professional Excellence Award -   Reine-Elodie A. Koffi

Presented by the faculty to the senior student who has demonstrated distinguished professional development.  

Health Information Management Human Relations Award - Vincent P. Salamat

Presented by the faculty and senior class to the graduating student who has demonstrated a special ability in the area of interpersonal relationship - a skill of particular importance in management, requiring perspective, humor, sensitivity and the talent for positive interaction with peers, faculty, staff and clinical internship personnel.

Congratulations to Marissa Natole selected as Diamond Peer Teacher

Marissa Natole has been selected as a Diamond Peer Teacher for  HIM 3113- Healthcare Database Administration for the Fall 2012 semester working with Professor Marselis.

The Diamond Peer Teacher Program is a competitive program providing upper division undergraduates at Temple the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of college-level teaching, to develop their own pedagogical skills by working closely with their faculty mentors, and to provide supplemental instruction in lower-level and GenEd courses.

BSHIM Juniors Converge on Washington DC to Participate in Team Talks

Twenty-six students in the Junior Class of  BS in Health Information Management (HIM) program, and Dr. Maggie Foley, Director of the BSHIM program and Associate Professor, Joe Hines, Student Services Coordinator, and Cindy Joy Marselis, Interim Chair of the HIM Department, traveled to Washington DC on March 26, 2012 to
participate in the American Health Information Management Associations (AHIMA)  2012 Winter Team Talks. Team Talks is an interactive and educational conference that brings AHIMA’s leadership together to engage in dialogue that sets the strategic direction of the Health Information Management profession and the Association. Team Talks includes an update on AHIMA's activities, a review of strategic government initiatives including updates and information regarding the HITECH Act and  the implementation of Stage 2 of Meaningful Use,
policy development on the implementation of ICD-10 and a possible delay by the Department of Health and Human Services, and the state of the profession.  The event, which took place at the Hilton on Capital
Hill, including nearly 100 participants and delegates representing states across the country, plus a live Webcast occurring during the session to allow members nationwide to participate.

Liaison at Hahnemann University Hospital participated in a panel entitled "Information Management in a Compliant World"  moderated by Brian Hannah, M.D.,  Chief Medical Information Officer, Attending -
Internal Medicine, Aria Health Systems at "The Crossing the Infrastructure & HITECH Meaningful Divide" Symposium" on March 22, 2012.   The Symposium  included hundreds of Health and University Life Sciences Information Technology professionals from diverse sectors, disciplines, and perspectives engaged in an informative structured symposium that centered on breaking barriers crossing the
healthcare infrastructure technology meaningful divide.
