Computer Competency Exam
For Fall 2012 admissions, all BSHIM candidates must successfully complete CIS 1055 (CIS55) or its equivalent with a C or better OR successfully pass the Computer Competency Exam by August 18, 2012 to be accepted into the program.
All MSHI and post-BS HI Certificate students must successfully pass the Computer Competency Exam.
What type of information is in the exam?

How long does the exam take?
The competency exam takes 60 minutes to complete. However, the entire process of the examination will take approximately 1.5 hours for logging in, creating an account, and taking a practice test.
How will I arrange to take the computer competency exam?
To schedule the test, email Joe Hines at hlthinfo@temple.edu. Prior to the test you will need to purchase a myitlab COMPUTER LITERACY TEST ACCESS CODE. You can purchase the access code onsite or online. You MUST bring the myitlab Access Code with you on the day of the test
Online:
Navigate to the Temple's myITlab and click on the Test Out Purchase Access Code Button. You will be prompted to create a Pearson Education Account if you do not already have one and you can then purchase the access code. The code costs approximately $22.00.
Onsite:
You can purchase the access code at one of the following locations on campus:
- Temple University Bookstore (13th & Montgomery) - the access codes are located behind the main front registers.
- Zavelle's Bookstore (1520 N Broad Street) - the access codes are located behind Register 5.
- Health Science Center Bookstore.
What is the cost?
The myitlab COMPUTER LITERACY TEST ACCESS CODE costs approximately $20.00. It is slightly higher if you purchase the access code online.
What is the passing score and what happens if I don't pass?
The passing score for the computer competency exam is 74%.
- If you do not achieve a 74%, purchase the @ MYITLAB COMPUTER LITERACY TRAINING AND RE-TEST ACCESS CODE.
- Once you purchase this access code you will need to set up an account.
- Next you will click on ENROLL
- For the course ID enter: CRSAB2B-67079
- Review the concepts and work through each module.
- When you feel that you have mastered each skill you will be eligible to resit for the on-site exam.
NOTE: You must retake the exam on site at Temple. Successful completion of the FOX Computer Literacy Test which is built into the application will NOT BE ACCEPTED. You have three chances to pass the examination.
