Continuing Education and Workforce Training
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WITH SPECIAL POPULATIONS
Temple University’s Department of Public Health, in collaboration with Temple’s Center for Preparedness Research, Education, and Practice (CPREP), offers both classes and a certificate program for preparing the public health workforce and emergency managers to address functional needs groups in preparing for and responding to an emergency. Functionality is an important concept because the need of each person can change with the particular situation and over time. This functional approach focuses on factors that limit a person's ability to receive and act on emergency orders and care for himself or herself during and after an emergency. These classes are for practitioners in emergency preparedness and response, public health professionals, undergraduate students, and recent graduates with an interest in emergency preparedness and response. The Department of Public Health has a CEPH accredited graduate and undergraduate public health program. These classes are offered in an online format through the public health program.
Some classes are offered regularly and can be taken individually as a non-matriculated student. Students can take up to three classes in the graduate program as a non-matriculated student. Please contact Joyce Hankins (joyce.hankins@temple.edu) for information on registering for graduate classes non-matric. Students can take up to 11 undergraduate credits a semester for a maximum of 30 credits total as a non-matric student. Please follow this link for more information regarding registering for undergraduate classes non matric: http://www.temple.edu/vpus/arc/continuingstudies/continuingstudies.html#undergraduate

This certificate will be listed on your transcript upon completion. The certificate program is taken as a cohort and usually beings in the summer. If you are interested in the certificate or are part of a business that is interested in providing the certificate to their employees please contact Sylvia Twersky-Bumgardner for further information.
