About the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Mission Statement :

The mission of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is:

  • To educate undergraduate and graduate students in speech, language and hearing sciences, speech language pathology and theoretical linguistics.
  • To engage in scholarly activity and research that advances the body of knowledge in these areas.
  • To provide service to the university, the professions and the community.

Record of Accomplishment:

Graduates nationwide are required to take the Praxis exam in speech-language pathology to qualify for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). Between September 2009 and August 2010, graduates of Temple’s program had a 100% pass rate. On average, they achieved a median score of 720/990 compared to the national median of 680.

100% of students who graduated in 2010 completed the program within the program’s published time frame.

100% of students who graduated in 2010 are employed in the profession.
