First Annual Recreation Therapy Evidence Based Practice Day Conference A Great Success

This spring, CHPSW'S Recreation Therapy Program in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences held its first annual Evidence-Based Practice Day (EBPD) Conference.

The conference gave 14 Masters’ and 4+1 students the opportunity to showcase the work they had completed over the Spring 2013 semester.

Students spent five to eight hours each week working on faculty-mentored research projects, totaling more than 1,650 hours’ worth of work. Together they reviewed and synthesized over 250 journal articles, developed 14 knowledge translation plans, and wrote eight critical evaluations of current issues, explaining why they occur and how interventions can be designed to improve client outcomes.

Although this year’s conference was only open to Temple Recreation Therapy students, next year’s will be open to the public. The program has created a blog to share student work and promote evidence-based practice, in hopes that other RT programs nationally and internationally will consider holding EBPD conferences to further strengthen recreation therapy evidence based practice.
