Events to highlight National Public Health Week in April

The College's Department of Public Health will be holding a series of events to commemorate National Public Health Week during the first week of April.  Kicking of the events is a community health fair on Saturday, March 31. See a listing below.

Community Health Fair

The Community Health Fair will feature Temple faculty led workshops about smoking cessation, nutrition, stress management, physical activity, and anti-violence and anti-bullying. Over 20 local organizations will provide health information and distribute materials about their services. There will be free health screenings, free nutrition and lifestyle consults, free HIV testing and many giveaways. Zumba sessions, skits delivering health messages, and other activities for the entire family will be ongoing throughout the day. Please come out and join us. This event is open to the public.

Active Living and Healthy Eating Student and Parent Workshops

Temple Public Health Students will hold several workshops for the students and parents of the Fairmount Boys and Girls club about active living and healthy eating. Workshops will feature tips for eating healthy, sample menus and recipes, innovative and fun ideas for physical activity and will also include a cooking demonstration.  Parents will also receive information about eating healthy on a budget and dietary guidelines.

Communicable Diseases Student and Parent Workshops

Temple Public Health students will hold workshops for K-8th grade students at the Fairmount Boys and Girls Club about personal hygiene, the importance of proper handwashing, and other ways to stop the spread of germs. Students will also learn about dental hygiene and ways to improve oral health.

Reproductive and Sexual Health Student and Parent Workshops

Temple Public Health Students will hold several workshops for the students and parents of the Fairmount Boys and Girls club regarding sexual health. Topics will include healthy relationships, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, contraception, and dating violence. Parents will also discuss how to talk to their children about sexual health topics. Free HIV testing will also be provided.
