More than 800 students celebrated during the College of Health Professions and Social Work’s 2012 Graduation Ceremony held May 10 in Temple’s Liacouras Center.
They were joined by close to 8,000 family and friends during the evening event which featured keynote speaker and Temple University Trustee Dr. William H. “Bill” Cosby.
“Today, this bright and shining accomplishment is the result of sheer will and determination on the part of many people and is a personal testament to each graduate’s perseverance and hard work,” said Michael Sitler, EdD, the College’s Interim Dean during the ceremony. “Graduates - you have done an outstanding job and are to be congratulated for your effort and accomplishments.”
In his address to the graduates, Dr. Cosby shared his experiences in the physical therapy field during his early years in the U.S. Navy, and emphasized the power of caregiving and the importance of staying focused on the needs of those being cared for.
During the academic 2011-2012 academic year, CHPSW awarded approximately 1,048 degrees, including 317 graduate, 567 undergraduate, 14 research doctoral, and 150 professional doctoral degrees.
During its inaugural presentation, Elaine Fox was honored with the College's Dean’s Citation Award for her work as Vice President of Specialized Health Services at the Public Health Management Corporation, and her efforts in the longstanding partnership between CHPSW’s nursing department and PHMC.
Also attending the 45th CHPSW Graduation Ceremony were Temple University Trustee Jane Scaccetti, and CHPSW Board of Visitors Chair David Devereaux and Board Member Barbara Ernico.
